Manchester United have bolstered their midfield with the signing of both Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton and Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich. The signing of Schweinsteiger to a three year deal was announced early yesterday via the Manchester United Twitter account.

The soon-to-be 31 year old started only 21 games in the 2015 Bundesliga campaign for Bayern Munich but still managed to score 5 goals and record 8 assists. His ove away from Germany is a dramatic change of scenery, largely attributed to the prescence of Xabi Alonso, the development of Phillip Lahm in the defensive midfield role, and also the fact that Schweinsteiger has pretty much won everything there is to win with Munich. Schweinsteiger had another year left on his contract but wanted to "do something new at the end of his career." The English Premier League is a completely different beast to the less-physical Bundesliga but Schweinsteiger's best traits are closing down opposition players and retaining possession and overall control of the midfield. He is certainly superior in skill to the incumbent United midfield of Carrick and Herrera and will surely step into the starting eleven alongside the newly signed Frenchman, Morgan Schneiderlin.
United also signed another defensive midfielder in the form of Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton on a four year deal. Amidst the interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, it was United who got the job done and were able to officially announce the signing of the French international minutes after the confirmation that Schweinsteiger had signed with them as well.

The 25 year old is highly regarded as one the Premier League's best defensive midfielders, but made it clear on Frecnh radio that he would leave Southampton to play Champions League football. His defensive partnership with Schweinsteiger is looking to be one of the most intimidating in recent years. While he doesn't offer the versatility of a Paul Scholes, he certainly offers more than Michael Carrick in the midfield.
Also in other news, Fenerbache signed Robin Van Persie for 4m pounds, and he came dressed as McLovin from Superbad. Goodluck Turkey.
