Sergio Romero to Manchester United

Argentina international goalkeeper Sergio Romero has signed with Manchester United in another coup for coach Luis Van Gaal. The shot-stopper was signed as a free agent after his contract with Sampdoria ran out.

The Argentine was often backup goalkeeper to former Arsenal player Emiliano Viviano. Over the 2014-15 season, he was loaned to AS Roma and played only three league games for them. While this isn't a huge signing for Manchester United, Romero is a good insurance policy behind David De Gea (assuming he stays) and is a viable option for the FA Cup and other domestic competitions. It also means that Victor Valdes is essentially gone from United, after he refused to play for the United reserve team.
