A Merseyside Derby that had heavy implications on the future career of Brendon Rodgers finished 1-1 with Danny Ings scoring his third goal in five Premier League starts.

Some subpar defending from Phil Jagielka saw Danny Ings wriggle free at the back post to become the sixth Liverpool player to score in his first Merseyside Derby. The lead didn't last long with Romelu Lukaku scoring during inury time at the end of the first half, latching onto a cross from young Tyias Browning.
It was a heated affair that saw Emre Can and Sahko nearly start a brawl with the Ross Barkely and co. Everton dominated the opening exchanges with Simon Mignolet called on to save two terrific chances for Everton and Liverpool made them pay against the run of play.
Lukaku made his presence felt throughout the second half, using his size to torment the Liverpool defence but to no avail. The coming together with Mamadou Sahko at the end of the half essentially summed up the afternoon for both teams; both trying so very hard to play tough but in the end firing blanks.
