Match Report: Arsenal vs Manchester United

With a smile on my face, it is with great pleasure that I recap Arsenal's 3-0 win over Manchester United. A fast start to the game saw Arsenal burst through the United backline and scored all three of their goals in the opening 20 minutes.

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring the the 6' minute with a deft flick at the near post and Ozil, who was fantastic throughout the game, put United to the sword only a minute later after Theo Walcott played the ball back into his path before cooly finishing into the bottom corner. It looked like Arsenal could do no wrong as Walcott's aggressive defence from the front was huge in Sanchez' second goal in the 19' minute. From there, it was clear blue skies and easy sailing for the Gunners who were comfortable to sit back and absorb the impotent United attack,

Anthony Martial had many chances thwarted by Petr Cech who was called on sporadically to make some crucial saves, maintaining the clean sheet, vital for the confidence of both him and the Arsenal defence who were missing Laurent Koscielny to a hamstring injury.

Critics have been praising Mesut Ozil post-game, who (finally) made his presence felt around the ground. Not necessarily through his physical strength, but rather his transcendent ability to pick out a pass like no other. Ozil was pivotal in the first two goals; assisting the first and of course scoring the second. But it was more than just his offensive prowess that has critics finally praising his work. Ozil was tracking back throughout the game and almost always played the right pass at the right time. While his football IQ has never been question, the German playmaker had a tendency to disappear in the past few games. It was clear from the start that Arsenal were set to make amends for the mid-week loss to lowly Greek side Olympiacos.

The win sees United fall to third while Arsenal are two points off leaders Manchester City. Also this:

What a way to celebrate a goal.
