The End of Mourinho

Following an emergency board meeting with Roman Abramovich, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been released from his contract, effective immediately. Chelsea had an abysmal start to the Premier League campaign and The Blues currently sit only one point outside of the relegation zone.

The final straw for Mourinho was losing to league leaders Leicester City this past weekend, less than a season after winning the Premier League trophy themselves.

Chelsea started the season with just three wins from the opening ten games, a far cry from the team that only lost three games last year.

The big-money signings of Radamel Falcao from Monaco and Pedro from Barcelona hardly helped, with Falcao often being overshadowed by the more athletic and potent Frenchman Loic Remy.

The disappearance of Eden Hazard has been troublesome for Mourinho, especially following his high praise that the Belgian international was "better than Ronaldo." Truly made to eat his words.

While his form has certainly improved in recent weeks, the results for Chelsea haven't. Losses to struggling teams such as Bournemouth, Stoke and Liverpool were more than enough indication that something was rotten in the Chelsea dressing room.

Former Australian national team coach Guus Hiddink has been charged with turning around the teams' fortunes on an interim basis. This marks his second caretaker spell with the club, after he took over from Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2009, where he went on to win the FA Cup.

In traditional Mourinho fashion, the blame for Chelsea's lack of success has been attributed to Arsene Wenger.

With that being said, it is quite astonishing just how much Mourinho has accomplished since the last time Arsenal won the Premier League back in 2004.
