Transfer: Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle

BBC Wales Sport have reported that Jonjo Shelvey has signed with Newcastle United for £12m. The 23 year old is scheduled to have a medical at St. James' Park before the deal is finalised but it looks likely that the Englishman will be departing the struggling Welsh side who sit just outside the relegation zone.

Shelvey has been particularly underwhelming this season, scoring only once and assisting another two goals in 16 of the Swans' 20 Premier League games so far. While he has never been a prominent goal-scoring threat, Shelvey is often seen as a midfield powerhouse capable of dictating the game to his liking with his excellent vision and overall distribution.
But so far this season Swansea has been performing poorly, with a 7 game winless streak spelling the end of former manager Gary Monk. Since his dismissal, Swansea won at home (rather unconvincingly) against West Brom, was held to a scoreless draw with Crystal Palace and just this week lost to a boring Manchester United team for the first time since 2012.
Indeed something may be wrong in the house of Swansea and it seems like Shelvey may be leaving a sinking ship rather than simply looking for a change of scenery.
